BI Analyst Senior / Intermediate

Responsibilities

Scope, communicate, collaborate and manage deliverables
Design and development of data structures and data extracts to support comprehensive data collection, loading and extraction for complex analysis
Manage, structure and extract clinical data from various databases (structured and unstructured)
Create and maintain a method for data request submission and generation of associated metrics
Leverage software to clean data and prepare it for analysis
Communicate clearly and consult with a variety of clients
Develop statistical reports and insights from data and its derived features
Build & maintain datamarts and datasets derived from Epic EHR data. Target RDBMS is currently Oracle but will be migrating to Azure based SQL server
Build and support statistical data sets for standardized reporting and presentations
Create ad-hoc data reports and analysis as needed
Identify and lead innovative solutions for data and IT services for various efforts
Report regularly on status of assignments, barrier resolution, and project deliverables
Additional work related tasks, not specifically outlined above, will be required of the candidate

Required

Bachelor's degree quantitative field
Minimum 5 years of related experience
Proficiency or Certification in the Epic EHR Cogito Data and Analytics suite, including the Clarity and Caboodle data models, and familiarity with Epic Reporting Workbench, Slicer-Dicer and Radar Dashboards
Must have proven success with managing IT projects and deliverables
Practical experience with SQL query writing and optimization for MS-SQL server (on prem and Azure based), oracle database (on prem) and PostGres (on prem)
Proficiency in some scripting or analysis language, preferably python or R. MATLAB or other platforms are acceptable but knowledge of python will be required
Proven experience in developing electronic dashboards, preferably with Tableau and/or PowerBI
Proven experience ETL/ELT processes using low code tools like SSIS, Pentaho or informatica, but also the ability to use SQL, python, R or other programming languages to manage these processes in a granular manner
Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results
Willingness to learn and quickly adjust to new tools and systems
Capable of converting ambiguous problem statements into concrete project requirements
Passion for data-driven results and customer initiatives
Must have excellent interpersonal skills including team leadership, emotional intelligence, self-management, priority management, tact and diplomacy, as well as good interpersonal communication skills
Individual must be organized, attentive to detail, motivated to learn, possess time management skills, and be capable of functioning independently
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and stakeholders
Ability to understand and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Experience in a clinical environment in any role is desired
Proficiency or Certification in the Epic EHR Cogito suite, including the Clarity and Caboodle data models, and familiarity with Epic Reporting Workbench, Slicer-Dicer and Radar Dashboards
Must have proven success with managing IT projects and deliverables
Demonstrated expertise using MS-SQL Server or Oracle database in a production environment containing sensitive data
Proficiency using relevant tools (such as Python, R, MATLAB, SQL, Excel, Tableau, Power BI OR the ability and willingness to train/certify in areas where you need to gain knowledge
Proven experience with analytics and data extraction design
Proven experience in developing electronic dashboards, preferably with Tableau and/or Power BI
Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results

Working knowledge of UMHS clinical programs, EPIC MiChart
Cogito Certification
EPIC certification as an informatics programmer
Familiarity with healthcare data models used in research (ohohsdi/omop, pcornet and others)
Healthcare terminology (ICD, CPT, SNOMED, LOINC) and terminology services (UMLS)
Clinical text processing
Healthcare APIs (i.e. FHIR)
Application programming in EPIC
Report development experience
Knowledge of Hospital or clinical department policies and procedures, including working with clinical computer supported data systems
Working knowledge of statistics and statistical programs is desired
Working knowledge of medical terminology strongly suggested
Professional communication experience
Comfort with medical environments is desirable, as well as experience with confidential and sensitive information
