Senior Reliability Strategist - Oahu

Hawaiian Electric is a leading provider of electricity and services to the majority of Hawaii's residents. They are seeking a Senior Reliability Strategist to lead efforts in improving electric transmission and distribution system reliability across multiple operating areas, focusing on strategy development, reliability reporting, and industry best practices.

Responsibilities

Lead efforts to develop multi-year work plans and priorities for projects and programs to enhance reliability
Leads efforts for analyzing past outages and determines strategies to mitigate or lessen future events
Leads efforts to develop/update reliability strategies to reduce the frequency and duration of electric service interruptions to customers
Lead efforts to provide timely, accurate, and consistent reliability metric reports, forecasts, and filings
Stays abreast of industry developments and leading practices related to reliability including new technologies, applications, modeling tools/methodologies, advanced analytics, benchmarking, and reporting practices
Supports the department and division in the development of systems, processes, procedures, methods, or other means needed to facilitate the smooth and effective functioning of the department/division
Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response

Required

Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant engineering, math, science, or science-related major from an accredited school or college is highly desirable
Master's degree desirable, preferably in business administration (MBA) from an accredited school or college
Thorough understanding of electric power system reliability
Thorough understanding of electric power supply, transmission, and distribution systems and components
Thorough understanding of electric power system operation
Thorough understanding of utility information systems
Thorough understanding of probability, statistics, and risk
Thorough understanding of utility financial and accounting principles
Thorough understanding of utility regulation
General understanding of electric power system resilience
General understanding of electric power system inspection and maintenance
General understanding of utility/infrastructure asset management
Ability to understand and accurately define problems, analyze and synthesize information, identify and evaluate solution options, and make sound decisions or recommendations
Ability to deal with complexity, uncertainty, and incomplete, inconsistent, or conflicting information
Expertise with structured problem-solving approaches, tactics, and tools
Ability to create and interpret trends, models, forecasts, and simulations
Expertise with personal computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
Demonstrated expertise or aptitude for enterprise applications such as ERP/EAM, IRR, and GIS
Written, oral, and listening communication skills and ability to articulate ideas and concepts clearly and concisely
Ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations to small and large groups
Ability to plan, organize, secure, and manage resources/efforts to achieve project/program objectives to budget, scope, and schedule
Ability to function effectively in a team environment and contribute to team process and decision-making
Ability to use communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to resolve conflicts between parties
Ability to listen and develop alternative solutions that will result in a variety of constituents reaching agreement on a course of action
Ability to plan, prioritize, schedule, and manage time and work to complete tasks and meet deadlines, while handling multiple assignments and remaining flexible and adapting to changing priorities

Extensive (8+ or more) years of related work experience or demonstrated ability preferably within the electric utilities industry is highly desirable
