TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER
The State of Arizona Enterprise Technology (ASET) is seeking a Transportation Engineer to be part of an innovative team focused on enhancing the safety of Arizona's transportation system. The role involves preparing and reviewing project scoping documentation, ensuring compliance with design standards, and providing technical expertise in roadway design and construction documentation.

Responsibilities
Manages, prepares and reviews project scoping documentation ensuring completeness and compliance with State and Federal requirements - including project Assessment Reports, Planning Level Scoping Reports, L/DCR, ADA Feasibility Reports, AASHTO Reports, Cost Estimates and Project Schedules, and Design Exception/Variance Reports, Memos, and Letters as required
Participates in the development, review and updating of Roadway Design Standards, Processes and Guidelines through research and by applying a current knowledge and understanding of industry technical research and design best practices
Implement and support the implementation of Performance Based Practical Design (PBPD) concepts and approach on all projects
Provide technical support and expertise in developing solutions that meet the project's objectives and need and ensure proper documentation of decisions and scope
Represents Section, Group and ADOT at various meetings, site visits, and tasks force and research projects with other Sections, Groups, outside agencies, consultants and stakeholders
Perform compliance reviews of project scoping and technical reports, design/construction documentation, and others to ensure compliance with state and federal guidance and requirements
Assist with the preparation and review of design and construction documentation (including calculations, drafting and design/construction documentation) in compliance with State and Federal requirements
Provide technical expertise and representation in legal proceedings and addressing roadway technical design criteria standards and practices in response to legal questions, inquiries related to roadway design claims or other matters
Qualification
Required
Arizona PE Licensure is required for this position
A candidate who holds an active PE in another state will be required to meet registration requirements set forth by the Arizona Technical Board of Registration and attain an Arizona PE from the Board within 6 months of employment start date
A valid driver's license is required if the incumbent is to be an authorized state driver
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of Civil Engineering as applied to the development, design construction and maintenance of the State Highway System
Thorough understanding of Federal and State regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines as applicable to the Project Development Process
Knowledgeable of State statues, safety practices, methods procedures and techniques utilized in management of assigned resources; computer applications
Competent in the principles of public participation, consultant management/coordination, and project management/coordination
Understanding of project budget development and administration
Skill in oral and written communication; project management
Skills in researching and interpreting a wide variety of highly technical data, analyzing and designing major highway related projects, listening and problem solving, personnel management, leadership and employee relationships, supporting and promoting the continuous process improvement
Skills in computer application and computer aided analysis and design package utilization
Skills in Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Meets, Docs, Spreadsheet and Slides)
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a wide range of professional and governmental representatives and the public and the ability to respond to verbal and written questions from the public or governmental representatives
Analytic and interpretive abilities to understand and apply complex state and federal regulations relating to highway development
The ability to analyze and evaluate a wide variety of engineering data and the ability to develop and implement appropriate standards, procedures and priorities for assigned work
Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form
Ability to conduct meetings and presentations to a variety of audiences and achieve consensus on key issues as necessary
Preferred
Education includes a BS in Civil Engineering or closely related field and various employer training courses and seminars relevant to position
Experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineer
Some out of town travel may be required for this position
