Transportation Engineer I, II, III, IV-CC- Central Design
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer I, II, III, or IV to join the Central Design Office in Corpus Christi, TX. This role involves performing transportation engineering work across various functional areas, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws while coordinating project development and design.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions
Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
Reviews and revises schematics, PS&E, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management systems
Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests
Writes/reviews proposals and estimates for letting
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
Trains engineering staff
Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets
Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance
Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
Transportation Engineer I - 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer II - 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer III - 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer IV - 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Licensed Prof Engineer
Safety Impact Certificate
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
Hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory
Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
Construction phasing and sequencing
Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
Design and plan preparation methods and requirements
Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities
Performing basic design and drafting
Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long-term deadlines
Planning, assigning, directing, coordinating and reviewing the work of professional, administrative and technical employees
Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing
