Freshwater Wetlands and Highlands Permitting Intern - WLM-2026-17i
The NJ Department of Environmental Protection is dedicated to preserving and enhancing New Jersey's water quality and natural resources. The intern will assist the Bureau of Freshwater Wetlands and Highlands Permitting with the review of permit applications, site inspections, and wetland delineations to support regulatory decisions and responsible development.

Responsibilities
Assist with the timely and accurate review of permit and letter of interpretation applications that protect regulated freshwater wetlands and highlands resources
Conduct application review, site inspections, and wetland delineations
Ensure regulatory decisions are based on sound field observations and technical analysis
Qualification
Required
Detailed oriented
Ability to multitask
Strong customer service skills
Microsoft Office skills, especially Word and Excel
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Enrolled at an accredited university/college studying one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, Physical Geography, Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering
Possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
Authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations
