Responsibilities

Lead sidewalk engineering projects from inception to completion, including the review of designs for conformance and compliance, providing technical engineering oversight and guidance, coordinating project phases, and recommending solutions to complex engineering issues and problems
Manage the design of sidewalk projects while monitoring progress and ensuring conformance to scopes, schedules, budgets, specifications, and regulatory requirements
Work across teams to identify process improvements and programmatic standards for the Sidewalk Program
Lead in the development and/or update to engineering policies, processes, and programmatic agreements to accelerate design delivery
Facilitate the procurement and management of design teams for the Sidewalk Program
Identify project risks and mitigation strategies
Identify and implement innovations to improve project and team performance and efficiency
Develop annual project workplans and align design work with available construction mechanisms (including DBB, Integrated Construction, etc.)
Prepare and communicate project status reports for key stakeholders and provide updates on project activities
Work with stakeholders both internal and external to the city – including utility companies and other city agencies and departments -- to resolve conflicts and advance sidewalk design
Note: occasional after-hours work for community meetings and field observations may be required depending on program needs

Required

Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional engineering work experience after obtaining a Professional Engineering (PE) license
Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application
Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

Preferred

At least three years of progressive experience in transportation engineering with a strong drive as a Design project manager to push projects forward to meet tight deadlines
Experience designing, reviewing designs, preparing bid documents and/or works orders for transportation infrastructure projects (especially sidewalks, trails, and other flatwork)
Experience in establishing policies, procedures, and other standard work
Experience in communicating engineering concepts and designs to non-engineers
A comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and City agency policies, standards, and systems
A passion for improving our community and mentoring others
