Responsibilities
Own the engineering strategy, execution, and delivery of the product roadmap
Lead, mentor, and manage a distributed team of engineers (onshore and offshore)
Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance without writing production code
Set clear goals, priorities, and expectations for the engineering team
Partner with Product and Design to translate business requirements into technical plans
Drive best practices in code quality, system design, security, and scalability
Establish and improve engineering processes (planning, estimation, reviews, releases)
Ensure strong collaboration and communication across time zones
Conduct regular performance reviews, feedback cycles, and career development discussions
Set and track individual and team performance goals
Coach engineers to improve technical skills, execution, and ownership
Address performance issues directly and constructively when needed
Partner with leadership and HR on hiring, onboarding, compensation input, and retention
Build and maintain a strong, accountable, and healthy engineering culture
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field required
Strong technical background in software engineering or related fields
Experience as a VP of Engineering, Head of Engineering, or Engineering Director in a startup or high-growth environment
Proven success leading small to mid-sized engineering teams
Experience managing onshore and offshore / distributed teams
Comfortable being hands-off on coding while remaining deeply engaged in technical decisions
Experience owning performance management and people leadership responsibilities
Ability to work directly with individual contributors (not managing managers)
Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience scaling an engineering organization in a startup environment
SaaS or platform product experience
Experience working closely with founders or executive teams
Preferred
Master's degree or equivalent advanced education
