Sales Development Application Engineer
AtmosZero is a fast-growing energy technology startup based in Loveland, CO, focused on redefining how industrial heat is produced. The Sales Development Application Engineer plays a critical role in commercial growth by identifying customer profiles and setting meetings to develop opportunities, while also providing pathways into technical roles.
Responsibilities
Research, define, and continuously refine ideal customer profiles across industrial and commercial markets
Identify and prospect target accounts using outbound tools, market research, conferences, referrals, and partner channels
Conduct initial discovery calls to understand customer operations, steam usage, pain points, and high-level technical constraints
Qualify inbound and outbound leads against technical and commercial criteria (pressure, temperature, duty cycle, economics, timelines)
Set high-quality meetings for senior sales leadership and applications engineering, ensuring strong pre-call alignment
Develop a working understanding of the client’s boiler system capabilities, limitations, and application fit scenarios
Support early-stage technical screening by gathering and organizing customer-provided data
Assist with basic technical assessments and feasibility inputs under guidance from senior engineers
Translate customer conversations into clear internal summaries outlining opportunity size, risks, and next steps
Track competitor positioning and alternative decarbonized steam solutions
Participate in customer calls, conferences, and industry events as a representative of the client
Capture customer feedback and relay insights to sales, applications, and product teams
Maintain accurate CRM records for leads, accounts, and activities
Qualification
Required
Self-driven, organized, and comfortable in a fast-moving startup environment
Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, economics, sustainability, or a related field
Strong interest in industrial energy systems, decarbonization, and technical problem-solving
Willingness to develop technical understanding over time
Comfort asking technical questions and recognizing when deeper engineering support is needed
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to translate complex technical or commercial concepts into concise summaries
Preferred
1–3 years of experience in sales development, applications support, technical sales, or early-career engineering roles
Exposure to: Industrial steam systems, boilers, heat pumps, chillers, or thermal equipment
Exposure to: Industrial energy usage, utilities, or manufacturing operations
Exposure to: High-level technical documentation or system diagrams
Exposure to: CRM tools and outbound sales platforms
Interest in developing deeper technical expertise, potentially moving into application engineering
Experience attending conferences, trade shows, or industry networking events
Strong Excel skills for basic analysis and data organization
Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with sales and technical teams
