Responsibilities
Design new civil buildings by utilizing the applicable loads including gravity, seismic, and wind loads, etc. in accordance with the appropriate building code
Select, design, and detail the appropriate lateral system for the structure
Develop finite-element-analysis based structural models on the computer to evaluate building performance
Optimize the design by analyzing dynamic and vibration issues
Evaluate existing buildings for future tenant improvements and retrofitting by utilizing the most current analysis methods and loads in compliance with the latest building codes and prepare detailed drawings and solutions for upcoming construction
Perform construction administration which includes coordinating with contractors to address construction discrepancies and conducting site inspections to ensure construction is performed in accordance with approved plans
Assist Principals and Senior Engineers in meeting with clients and other disciplines to provide creative and sustainable solutions that deliver cost-effective design and balance structural performance demand & aesthetic requirements
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in civil or structural engineering
EIT certificate (Engineer in Training) in California
Familiarity in designing buildings with a range of code-approved materials, including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
Knowledge of performing and optimizing design with finite-element analysis based structural design tools
Familiarity with structural engineering design/analysis programs including RISA, RAM, ETABS
