Position Details: Assistant County Auditor
Aransas County, Texas is seeking an Assistant County Auditor to assist the County Auditor and 1st Assistant County Auditor with internal auditing and accounting duties. The role involves reviewing financial reports, maintaining county ledgers, and ensuring compliance with financial laws and regulations.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Reviews and audits monthly financial reports of elected county officials including receipts, bank deposits, and bank statements
Assists in the performance of on-site audits for county offices or departments and assists external auditors
Maintains county ledgers and fund journals, reconciles records with County Treasurer, including bank records, revenues, expenditures, and payroll
Verifies requisitions and purchase orders against budgeted line items prior to purchase and receives and submits requests for budget amendments to Commissioners' Court for approval
Examines and verifies claims against the County before they are submitted to the Commissioners' Court
Ensures county departments and offices are in compliance with state and federal financial laws and regulations
Maintains county bonds and insurance policies, including workers' compensation
Maintains county capital and real property inventories, lease purchase agreements, and intergovernmental, bank, lease, and maintenance contracts
Prepares, processes, and journals interfund and intrafund transfers
Issues gas billings to county departments and county-related entities on monthly basis
Administers grants, maintains grant files, bills, and reimbursements, prepares and submits all reports as required by grantor
Receives public in person and on the telephone, answering questions and/or referring to appropriate personnel
Processes accounts payable and accounts receivable for all County funds
Performs such other special projects or related duties as assigned by the Auditor
Qualification
Required
Good moral character and intelligence
Competent business ability
Two years of experience in auditing and accounting
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
Knowledge of current office practices and procedures
Ability to prepare documents and spreadsheets neatly and accurately
Ability to operate ten-key calculator in performing complex mathematical calculations quickly and accurately
Ability to operate computer using standard word processing, data inquiry, and spreadsheet software packages
Ability to learn departmental policies, rules, regulations, and procedures
Ability to adopt and apply established methods and procedures to various accounting transactions
Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements
Ability to complete and prepare accurate accounting reports and statements of moderate complexity with minimum supervision
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and external entities
High school graduation, or its equivalent
At least one year of office experience, preferably in county government
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
