NANA SHAREHOLDER COLLEGE INTERNSHIP - NANA Regional Natural Resources Intern Paid Internship
NANA is seeking a motivated intern for their Natural Resources Department to support various environmental, data, and outreach-focused projects. This internship offers hands-on experience in data management, geoscience, mine closure planning, and community education, tailored to the intern's skills and interests.

Responsibilities
Support document management improvements, including organization and migrating files to SharePoint; Create and apply folder structures, naming conventions, and basic metadata; Conduct quality checks to ensure completeness and accessibility of key departmental files
Compile and quality check regional environmental datasets (e.g. rock, soil, and water chemistry); Standardize units, detection limits, and metadata; Classify data by lithology and location and flag anomalies or gaps
Review selected datasets and reports to support conceptual models related to mine closure; Assist with summarizing oxidation zones, water-rock interactions, or waste pile characteristics; Support review of mine closure or end land use scenarios
Help translate technical resource and mine closure information into youth friendly educational materials; Support development of classroom or community facing activities related to land use, resource stewardship, and environmental decision making
Assist with outreach efforts or educational partnerships (e.g. Alaska Resource Education), as appropriate
Participate in meetings, site briefings, and learning sessions; Prepare short summaries, presentations, or progress updates; Engage with multiple mentors across the Natural Resources team
Qualification
Required
Applicants must be a shareholder of NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., or a direct descendant of a shareholder
Must be 18 years or older
Must reside in Anchorage, Alaska. This may be waived for the appropriate candidate willing to accept temporary relocation to Anchorage during the program duration
Current undergraduate or recent graduate in natural resources, environmental science, geology, chemistry, engineering, education, or a related field preferred
Must have completed two years' worth of college credits, to include college-level Science Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) courses, and one college level or advanced placement (high school) statistics course
Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or Google Workspace)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to read, summarize, and synthesize technical information
Willingness to learn and work independently with guidance
Preferred
Familiarity with Excel based data analysis
Introductory coursework in chemistry, geology, or environmental science
Familiarity with basic statistical parameters, such as standard deviation and relative percent difference
Experience with document management systems (SharePoint, Google Drive, or similar)
Interest in mine closure, land use planning, and/or natural resource education
Experience in creating educational or outreach material
Past participation in ANSEP, GeoFORCE, or Alaska Resource Education programs
