Responsibilities

Prepares drawings, specifications, cost estimates, project schedules, and other work for accuracy, presentation, and conformance with established construction/engineering practices and applicable codes and standards
Provides technical and professional guidance to staff, work crews, consultants, and others related to code interpretation, material standards, design and engineering drawings, specifications, plan interpretations, installation procedures, and construction methods
Performs a variety of project activities including, but not limited to, preparation and review of construction contracts; conduct pre-construction conferences; approval of time schedules; review and approve pay requests; evaluate and approve change orders; solve construction problems; perform final inspection and project close out duties
Conduct swing stage inspections on high-rise structures to ensure safety and compliance with applicable standards
Travel to work sites of assigned engineering projects; note work progress and possible problem areas; report findings to supervisory staff as necessary; resolve project problems by reviewing and commenting on proposed modifications of design, construction change orders, and related methods
Attend and serve as staff/representative for pre-design, pre-bid, and pre-construction meetings related to assigned projects
Strictly adheres to the office standards, policies, and project schedules. Informs, in a timely manner, the department head regarding any conflicts/issues that relate to his/her work
Learning is a required assignment for all employees

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university or documented equivalent combination of education and professional experience in a related engineering field
Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver's License and reliable transportation required
Ability to perform swing stage inspections
2-5 years of post-degree work experience, which must have involved construction, design, inspection or estimating
Ability to sit with back at a 90-degree angle for up to 8 hours per day
Ability to look at a computer for up to 8 hours per day
Ability to stand upright for up to 8 hours per day
Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas (uneven terrain, exposure to outdoor weather elements)
Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, laying, crawling, and twisting required up to 30% of the time in this role
Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds at times
Must be able to use right and left foot for repetitive movements as in operating controls or levers
Full dexterity of wrists and fingers required with repetitive motions
Must be able to see near, in the distance, color, depth, and range
Safety equipment, including but not limited to hard hat, OSHA approved footwear, safety glasses and safety vests, is always required while performing job functions on active construction sites
Riding in a hoist and/or in a swing stage to be performed under strict adherence to the OSHA standards
Climbing ladders and scaffolds to be performed under strict adherence to the OSHA standards

Preferred

Possession of a registration as an Engineer Intern (EI) preferred
OSHA certification preferred
1+ year of forensic engineering is preferred
