Responsibilities
Develop professional relationships both within the company and outside the company to provide legal and business counsel
Monitor and contribute, as needed, to due diligence efforts and documentation for acquisitions, dispositions, and financing transactions
Work closely with Chief Compliance Officer and third-party compliance consultant in overseeing day-to-day SEC reporting and compliance procedures
Assist with overseeing insurance program and entity maintenance
Prepare and negotiate various transaction-related documents concerning acquisitions, dispositions, construction, financing and development of projects to mitigate risk and maximize success
Review transactions and agreements, including finance transactions and commercial leases, on behalf of the company and advise senior management on legal strategies to limit risk and achieve business objectives
Maintain accurate documented records of ongoing obligations, renewals and key dates
Provide transactional legal support to the Acquisitions, Development, Asset Management and Property Management Groups
Supervise outside counsel and oversee litigation, and work with Human Resources on internal employment issues
Qualification
Required
Minimum 4-5 years of transactional real estate legal experience at a firm or in house, preferably including varied experience with multifamily
Highly skilled in drafting or reviewing real estate contracts and leases, and experience with title and due diligence process
Ability to identify and develop effective best practices
Solid communication skills and success in connecting with multiple levels of internal and external audiences
Successful negotiation skills
Proven track record working in a 'contributor culture' and ability to proactively identify risk management areas
Juris Doctor required, and member of California Bar
