Crew Chief
City of Boerne is seeking a Crew Chief to assist with the maintenance of public areas, including streets and drainage systems. The role involves supervising personnel, leading construction and maintenance activities, and ensuring safety procedures are followed at all times.

Responsibilities
Directs, supervises, trains, and cross-trains, and assists affiliated personnel in the performance of assigned tasks, ensuring that correct policies, procedures, and safety standards are maintained
Leads and assists with the construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, gutters, and curbs by using overlays, cement, reinforcing steel, asphalt, sand, gravel, and patching compound
Installs, repairs, and maintains drainage pipes, catch basins, bridges, and related components
Operates maintainer, loader, backhoes, dump trucks, asphalt trucks, rollers, light and/or heavy trucks, air hammers, shovels, mowers, picks, and hand tools
Operates brush chipper, feeding trees and brush into machine and ensuring safe operation
Loads, transports, and unloads necessary materials for assigned projects
Leads in the setup of barricades at work sites to warn traffic of hazardous areas
Leads in maintaining, planting, and/or trimming grass, trees, and brush, including use of chainsaws and/or other light equipment
Performs minor repairs on equipment
Reports progress of accomplishments/problems of crew in executing assigned tasks
May assist with the evaluation of subordinate personnel
Serves as essential emergency (nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call emergency) response personnel when required
Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the position
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or Possess GED
At least five (5) years of progressive experience in the public works construction (roads, streets, and/or drainage systems involving a wide variety of methods and equipment, including concrete and asphalt work, backhoes, rollers, and specialized trucks)
Knowledge of industry standards, methods, practices, material, and equipment used in street and drainage system maintenance
Skill/Ability to understand, follow, and give instructions
Skill/Ability to learn to operate standard maintenance equipment effectively and safely
Skill/Ability to tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions
Skill/Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
Maintain valid Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities and good driving record
Heavy safety/physical requirements: Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, and using a force equal to ninety (90) pounds
Appropriate valid Texas Class C driver's license
16-hour Installation and Maintenance of Signs and Pavement Markings (UTA CCT 515, or equivalent) Required
Preferred
Leadership or supervisory experience
Texas Class A or B CDL
4-hour Train-the-Trainer Flagger (TEEX HWS114, or equivalent)
16-hour Traffic Control Supervisor (UTA CCT421, or equivalent)
16-hour Work Zone Traffic Control/Qualified Flagger (UTA CCT 520, TEEX HWS002, or equivalent)
16-hour Installation and Maintenance of Signs and Pavement Markings (UTA CCT 515, or equivalent)
