Shimmick Corporation is a dynamic infrastructure builder seeking a highly talented Mechanical Engineer in Chattanooga, TN. The role involves providing engineering support for the installation and commissioning of heavy mechanical installations related to the construction of the lock chamber at the Chickamauga Dam Project.

Responsibilities

Provide technical and commercial inputs regarding management of subcontracts and prime contract
Coordination of work processes, interface with other departments, external contractors, and resources such as project team members
Provide technical support to field crews, ensuring accurate interpretation of drawings, specifications, and contract requirements
Oversee layout, surveying, and grade control to maintain project accuracy
Help manage and implement construction methodologies and best practices in collaboration with the superintendent and project team
Conduct field inspections to ensure work meets Shimmick’s quality standards and project specifications
Work with the Quality Control team to document and resolve non-conformances
Assist in safety audits and enforce compliance with OSHA and Shimmick safety policies
Promote a safety-first culture by proactively identifying and mitigating potential hazards
Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining project schedules
Track material quantities, labor hours, and equipment utilization to support cost control efforts
Identify and help resolve potential project delays or budget overruns
Work closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and design teams to facilitate smooth execution
Prepare and track RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, daily reports, and as-built documentation
Participate in daily and weekly construction meetings to discuss project progress and challenges
Serve as a liaison between the field and office, ensuring seamless communication and issue resolution
Utilize construction management software such as Bluebeam for tracking project data
Maintain organized field records and documentation for closeout and future reference

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field + 2 years of relevant experience (heavy mechanical, heavy industrial, etc.) or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred

Proficiency in AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite
Understanding of heavy civil construction methods, means, and materials
Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards
Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in outdoor and high-paced field environments
