Associate Safety Engineer (Elevators)

The California Department of Industrial Relations is seeking an Associate Safety Engineer (Elevators) to work within the Division of Occupational Safety and Health. This role involves conducting safety inspections of elevators and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

Independently performs complex and routine safety inspections of conveyances
Performs all work in accordance with the Elevator Unit policies and procedures
Apply and uphold the provisions of the State's Elevator safety orders
Communicate with the public about compliance issues as they relate to a conveyance
Crawling or climbing may be necessary to access various equipment
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending or kneeling
Proper use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
Move and transport up to 50 lbs. of equipment or work related materials
Reaching (above and below shoulder level)
Have functional vision

Required

Applicants must be either reachable on an employment list, have transfer eligibility or have reinstatement eligibility

Driving within the various assigned areas to multiple sites daily
Work sites are indoors and outdoors and may be subject to noise and weather
Able to access multiple levels via vertical and ships ladders
Comfortable working at heights
Communicate with the public about compliance issues as they relate to a conveyance
Crawling or climbing may be necessary to access various equipment
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending or kneeling
Proper use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (hard hat, safety eyewear, safety boots, hearing protection, coveralls, etc.)
Move and transport up to 50 lbs. of equipment or work related materials
Reaching (above and below shoulder level)
Have functional vision
