Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a SpEd Teacher on Special Assignment to provide guidance in planning, coordinating, and implementing Student Services programming. The role involves supporting staff development, facilitating communication between stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with educational standards.

Responsibilities

Promotes the ongoing growth and development of staff in the District’s Student Services projects or programs
Identifies, encourages and provides on-site staff development and instructional coaching support to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about program components and understand the accountability aspects toward a high performing program
Facilitates and maintains communication between District, building teams team, families, and school staff regarding information about the assigned Student Services provision of services, projects, or programs
Represents the District, Student Services Director and school site(s) as necessary and provides knowledge and guidance in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the particular assignment
Plans and facilitates necessary meetings as related to specific assignment(s)
Responsible to support teams to develop and implement special education programming, including IEP programming development, as assigned by Student Services administrative team
Motivates project/program participants to develop skills and attitudes that foster success
Provides Student Services staff and families information for applicable resources to ensure programming meet the specialized need of students
Assists the teachers in maintaining a classroom atmosphere/environment conducive to learning and highest student achievement
Provides instructional support to the school community in the full implementation of the assigned projects or programs
Collaborates in the development and facilitation of professional development training and activities
Keeps abreast of current research applicable to the assigned projects or programs
Ensures compliance with District, State, and Federal requirements for timelines, documentation, and programming
Maintains and updates knowledge and skills required for success in the position by participating in professional development activities, workshops and conferences as needed or as assigned
Manages special projects and performs related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis
Regular, reliable, predictable attendance and in-person presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the performance of the work

Required

Bachelor's degree with appropriate educational endorsement and five years successful teaching experience; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work
Valid Washington State teaching certificate or ESA certificate
Valid Washington State driver's license
Special Education endorsement
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance
Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques
Skill in decision-making and problem solving
Skill in classroom management
Skill in handling student discipline
Effective time management and priority-setting skills
Skill in obtaining, clarifying, and exchanging information
Skill in training and making presentations
Ability to bring about consensus to develop a school vision and mission for assigned projects or programs
Ability to serve as a role model for staff
Ability to participate as part of a team
Ability to demonstrate reasonable, reliable, and regular attendance
Ability as a communicator
Ability to motivate and interact with teachers, principals and other administrators
Ability to coordinate activities
Ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain good follow-through procedures
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting

Preferred

Master's degree preferred in Special Education or related field
