The role involves taking responsibility for legislative proposals, briefing the Senator, and collaborating with various stakeholders to manage constituent inquiries and legislative processes.

Responsibilities

Taking primary responsibility for several of the Senator’s Legislative Proposals
Briefing the Senator on bills pending in committee and on the Senate Floor
Working in collaboration with the Senator’s staff, Committee staff, Legislative staff in other Senate and Assembly Offices, lobbyists, community organizations, state and local agencies and Departments
Responding to and tracking constituent inquiries, answering and responding to phone calls, and assisting with resolutions and letters
Developing and managing a portion of the Senator’s legislative package
Researching issues, negotiating and writing amendments, developing coalitions, authoring briefing memos and statements, analyzing proposed legislation and policies, staffing the Senator in meetings

Required

Bachelor's degree required
Excellent research, oral and written communication skills are required
Ability to manage multiple projects

Ability to analyze complex policy issues and propose solutions
Ability to explain complex issues in terms the public can easily identify with and understand

Preferred

Legislative experience preferred
Knowledge of the legislative process and prior media-related experience are strongly desired
