Content Marketing and Communications Director

Responsibilities

Support the mission, vision, and goals of the YMCA
Promote character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts, including Annual Impact, Capital, and United Way Campaigns
Follow mandated child abuse reporting requirements
Develop and execute an annual content and editorial plan that supports YMCA marketing, program promotion, membership growth, and fundraising. Ensure alignment with YMCA branding and effective communication of its mission
Maintain a coordinated calendar for web, social media, email, and internal channels, ensuring timely and balanced coverage of programs, events, member stories, and initiatives
Create, edit, and curate engaging multi-channel content (articles, press releases, social posts, newsletters, multimedia) that highlights member experiences, program successes, and the YMCA’s community impact. Ensure accuracy and brand voice
Manage content on external and internal platforms, keep content on all platforms current, and coordinate email communications. Ensure consistent messaging across all outlets
Help enforce brand guidelines in all materials, review content for clarity and consistency to ensure a unified organizational voice
Work with departments to gather stories and updates, aggregate diverse input, and ensure content aligns with strategic goals and showcases various programs
Use content to engage the community, feature testimonials and outreach, support membership and event promotion, and connect with local media when needed
Prepare press releases, assist CASO with media inquiries, media relationships, and coordinate press events as required
Track content performance, analyze KPIs, and adjust strategies based on data to improve reach and effectiveness. Report outcomes and recommend improvements
Stay updated on marketing trends, integrate new ideas, assist with other communications tasks, and uphold YMCA standards in all work
Set, manage, report, evaluate and achieve analytics benchmarks and goals
Manage external partners/vendors to ensure alignment with project expectations
Report on digital metrics such as Google Analytics, AdWords, etc
Assist in translating internal and external consumer data into actionable insights
Contribute to and maintain a professional work environment by demonstrating integrity, promoting teamwork, and fostering positive communication

Required

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
2-5 years in content creation, marketing, or communications, ideally for nonprofits or membership-based groups
Experience with content strategies or multi-channel campaigns is valued
Proficient writing and storytelling abilities; adaptable tone for varied audiences
Skilled at editing and proofreading
Proficient with digital content tools, AI, social media, and basic graphic design platforms like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
Knowledge of SEO and web analytics is a plus
Effective project management and organization; able to handle multiple deadlines and coordinate input from various sources
Excellent collaboration; works well with diverse teams and stakeholders
Culturally competent and inclusive communicator
Commitment to YMCA mission, values, and community service
Embodies caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
Certification in CPR/ First Aid/AED/02 required within 60 days of hire
Complete and maintain required training to include New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment
Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check
