Responsibilities
Oversee and manage daily social media publishing across platforms including X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, and others, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of voice
Edit, cut, and deliver social video from our shows and videos
Write and edit platform-appropriate copy, headlines, and posts that reflect The Bulwark’s voice and audience expectations
Maintain editorial standards and brand voice across all social channels, acting as a final check on tone, framing, and accuracy
Track performance metrics and engagement, helping assess what is resonating with audiences and informing future decisions
Experiment with formats, posting strategies, and platform features to improve reach and engagement
Stay current on platform changes, best practices, audience trends, and competitor activity
Guide and model best practices for audience engagement, including when and how to participate in comment threads and conversations
Take increasing ownership of a specific platform or area over time, with support and direction from the Digital Director
Qualification
Required
3-5 years of professional experience contributing to or managing social media accounts, ideally in a political, media, or journalism-focused environment
Strong familiarity with major social platforms, including their audiences, content formats, and technical constraints
Experience with editing social videos and optimizing for platforms
Clear, concise writing skills and strong editorial judgment
A deep interest in politics, current events, and media
Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, especially around breaking news
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Comfort working a regular schedule that includes at least one weekend day, with a weekday off during the Monday-Friday workweek
