Culinary Operations Summer Internship Experience

Hogsalt is delighted to offer a Culinary Operations Summer Internship Experience for those students pursuing a career in restaurant and culinary leadership. Interns will spend the summer learning hands-on in one of Hogsalt's Chicago restaurants, developing essential skills and gaining experience in various culinary roles.

Responsibilities

Attend the Hogsalt Vision & Values orientation session and fully participate in all other orientation and coaching sessions with our Recruiting, Training, & Development team
Develop teamwork and communication skills in 10 weekly workshops focusing on communication, feedback, goal-setting, working in teams, and the power of positivity
Handle tools and equipment safely and effectively in the restaurant environment
Effectively communicate to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
Juggle multiple tasks and demands under pressure smoothly and effectively
Perform the essential duties as outlined in the job description for each role assigned by the Internship Leader, such as line cook, prep cook, expeditor, or pastry cook
Anticipate needs and go beyond expectations to enhance guests’ experiences
Greet guests and colleagues with a warm and sincere smile, embodying hospitality
Respond to guests' moods with kindness, patience, and tact, while practicing good judgment
Learn to use a wide variety of tools and equipment proficiently
Comply with safety and sanitation regulations, as well as policies and procedures from the city, state, and Employee Handbook, including obtaining necessary certifications
Live the company’s core values of harmony, accountability, and resilience every day

Required

Pursuing a career in restaurant and culinary leadership
Ability to attend the Hogsalt Vision & Values orientation session and fully participate in all other orientation and coaching sessions
Develop teamwork and communication skills in 10 weekly workshops
Ability to handle tools and equipment in safe and effective ways
Effectively communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
Ability to juggle multiple tasks and demands under pressure
Perform essential duties as assigned by Internship Leader (line cook, prep cook, expeditor, or pastry cook)
Ability to work flexible days and shifts, including evenings and weekends
Comfortable shifting and lifting items up to 25 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 50 pounds
Ability to navigate stairs, slippery and rough floors, and stand or sit throughout the entire shift
Anticipate needs and go beyond expectations to enhance guest experience
Greet guests and colleagues with a warm and sincere smile
Respond with kindness, patience, and tact to guests and colleagues
Learn to use a wide variety of tools and equipment
Obtain a Food Handler's Certification and/or BASSET Certification
