Public Works Supervisor - Facilities Maintenance

Responsibilities
Effectively lead, listen to, and motivate staff
Plan, organize, and supervise subordinate personnel in assigned divisional programs and activities
Oversee the departments Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); prepare job estimates and establish priorities for work crews
Supervise preparation and administration of Public Works contracts as necessary for operations
Requisition supplies and materials and monitor inventories
Recommend the purchase of equipment and assist in the development of specifications
Receive, investigate, and resolve complaints
Perform routine building audits to ensure facilities are maintained at the highest standards
Inspect work sites before, during, and after completion to assure work is completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner
Ensure the maintenance of various records and prepare reports as required
Coordinate training and ensure the adherence of safe work practices by field maintenance personnel
Assist in the preparation of a variety of bid specifications and administration of contracts as necessary
Coordinate field services maintenance activities with other city departments, divisions, and sections
Perform related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Strong supervisory experience including hiring, staffing, coaching and development
Strong knowledge of building maintenance and repair methods, including best practices and construction techniques in multiple trades such as carpentry, drywall, electrical and emergency power systems, plumbing, roofing, and HVAC systems
Overall strong knowledge of municipal Public Works related maintenance, supervision, scheduling, and service request/work order management
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and supplemented by course work or specialized training in construction, civil engineering, and construction-related subjects
Four years of increasingly responsible experience in the assigned area
Two years in a lead or supervisory capacity
Possession of a valid California Driver's License
Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment pertaining to the operation of the assigned functional area
Knowledge of types and level of maintenance and repair activities generally performed in a public works facilities maintenance division maintenance programs
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations related to assigned functional areas
Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work
Knowledge of practical elements of civil engineering as they relate to facilities maintenance and repair
Knowledge of principles of organization, administration, budget and personnel management
Ability to supervise a comprehensive program for assigned functional areas, such as operations, maintenance, and repair of facility assets
Ability to determine cost-effective ways for efficient and effective operation of functional responsibilities
Ability to supervise the maintenance of records and prepare reports
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate subordinates
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Preferred
A bachelor's degree in project/construction management, business administration or certification in facility management
