Education Outreach Intern

Save the Sound is a leader for environmental action in your region. The Environmental Programming Intern will implement efforts to raise environmental awareness in young sailors by preparing and teaching educational programming sessions.

Responsibilities

Complete preparation for 2 hr. block environmental programming sessions
Participate in relevant pre-site visits and planning, coordinating with yacht club sponsor, as needed, and managing implementation of project goals according to accepted best practices and standards
Coordinate with supervisory staff on project logistics and implementation
Teach up to two 2-hour blocks of programming sessions each day to children ages 8-12 yrs
Gather and communicate feedback and change the educational offering accordingly
Routinely prepare and maintain tools/equipment before and after programs
Maintain strong relationships and communication with project partners and colleagues
Complete tasks that could involve heavy lifting (40+ pounds), packs/tools/gear
Working outdoors in various weather conditions including hot and cold temperature, sun and rain
Other assignments that support STS outreach, and environmental initiatives
Must have a clean, valid, state-issued driver’s license and daily access to a personal vehicle
Maintaining positive and productive working relationships with all Save the Sound staff members, including providing and receiving constructive feedback
Participating in building productive relationships with Save the Sound's members, external partners, policy makers, and the general public
Completing all administrative work on time, such as timesheets, purchase orders, project reports, and planning documents

Required

Strong interest in natural resource conservation, management, and education
Interest in educating children 8-12 years about environmental awareness
Commitment to protecting and improving the quality of the environment
Ability to work independently and prioritize daily tasks to meet program goals
Capacity to perform physical labor such as carrying 40+ pounds
Strong communication skills
Eligibility to work in the United States
Must have a clean, valid, state-issued driver's license and daily access to a personal vehicle

Preferred

Background in marine biology and/or marine ecology is a plus
