Solar Energy Consultant
SunPower is a leading player in the residential solar market, recently enhanced by the acquisition of Sunder Energy. The Solar Energy Consultant will self-generate leads, conduct consultations, and close deals while delivering exceptional customer experiences and contributing to the company's growth in the solar industry.
Responsibilities
Self-generate leads and set high-volume appointments through canvassing, networking, referrals, and creative prospecting in your assigned territory
Conduct in-home or virtual consultations to educate homeowners on solar benefits, including massive cost savings, environmental impact, energy independence, and available financing/installation options
Perform site assessments, qualify prospects, build customized proposals, handle objections, and confidently close deals using our proven sales process
Deliver an exceptional, consultative customer experience from first contact through post-install follow-up
Meet or exceed personal and team sales targets while maintaining compliance with all company and industry standards
Stay up-to-date on solar products, incentives, rebates, and industry trends through ongoing training and team support
Build lasting relationships and generate referrals to fuel ongoing pipeline growth
Qualification
Required
Proven track record of success in commission-based sales (door-to-door, B2C field sales, home improvement, telecom, security, or similar)
Strong hustle mentality: comfortable with rejection, self-motivated, and able to generate your own opportunities daily
Excellent communication, persuasion, and relationship-building skills—able to explain technical concepts in simple, compelling terms
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally (80%+ field time)
Tech-savvy: comfortable with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce), mobile apps, proposals, and virtual tools
High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred but not required
Any required state licensing (e.g., CSLB in CA or equivalent) can be obtained/pending—we support the process
Preferred
Prior solar experience is a huge plus (especially in-home solar sales, direct door-to-door, or self-generated lead roles), but we strongly encourage applications from top performers in other high-commission, face-to-face sales fields— no solar background required!
