2026-2027 Yearlong Intelligent Infrastructure Monitoring and Automation Intern
Chicago Transit Authority is the second largest transit system in the country! They are offering a yearlong internship in their Technology department's IT Infrastructure unit, where interns will engage in various projects related to operational technologies and monitoring capabilities.

Responsibilities
Identify and document a wide range of CTA operational technologies
Assess current monitoring capabilities and gaps
Engage with subject matter experts, field technicians, and infrastructure teams to understand operational context, constraints, and real-world challenges
Design Prototype Monitoring Dashboard and Documentation Package
Develop and test innovative monitoring methods such as camera based inspections, sensor integrations, automated status reporting, API queries, or remote connectivity techniques
Create a functional prototype dashboard aggregating health, status, and connectivity techniques
Assist with field observations
Qualification
Required
Full-time enrollment status in a degree program at an accredited college or university
Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good analytical and critical thinking skills
Proficient organizational skills with attention to detail
Good project management skills
Basic understanding of IT Infrastructure (networks, servers, operating systems)
Experience with data, analytics, or dashboards (excel, Power BI, Grafana, or similar tools)
Ability to research technical systems and summarize findings
Ability to create organized documentation (diagrams, summaries, instructions)
Experience with APIs, system integration, or data collection tools
Familiarity with GIS or mapping platforms for asset locations
Exposure to drones, robotics, or remote inspection tools
Preferred
Preferred Major(s): Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems (MIS) other Engineering (Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Robotics, Network Engineering etc.)
Preferred Level of Education: College senior and above
