Executive Director, Elementary
Omaha Public Schools is seeking an Executive Director for Elementary Education to oversee and coordinate curriculum programs for elementary schools. Responsibilities
Work with the Chief Academic Officer to organize efforts and resources to support district's strategy for elementary school improvement, curriculum, instruction, and support for students and staff
Utilize knowledge of national and state curriculum standards, early learning guidelines, Head Start Performance Standards, and best practices to plan for, support, and evaluate the elementary instructional programs and provide equity of opportunity and services
Provide leadership in planning and conducting curriculum audits, analyzing the impact of the instructional programs
Work collaboratively to create and effectively deliver information and professional learning to staff based on identified needs
Monitor implementation of district's strategy for school improvement and instruction and supports for students at the elementary level
Provide leadership and expertise in the alignment of instructional strategies and student learning for elementary schools
Work collaboratively with community partners in support of programming and manage appropriate grants
Plan, support and partner with others in the School as Hub focused work
Lead Head Start programming, manage the grant and supervise staff
Facilitate acquisition of instructional and other resources necessary (including textbooks, instructional materials, software programs and other resources) to close the gap between students
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines
Research, adopt and implement best practices and materials for early childhood through sixth grade instruction as well as for art, music, physical education, gifted and talented, and library education as appropriately defined by the Chief Academic Officer
Maintain communication and alignment with NDE regarding curriculum needs, standards, academic requirements and other curriculum and instruction items
Provide accountabilities for all programs and funds within the areas of supervision
Manage budget and compliance monitoring and reporting for assigned State, Federal and Local grants
Conduct coaching visits and walk-throughs and provide training to key staff on conducting coaching visits and walk-throughs; ensure that key staff are supporting schools in implementing effective instructional strategies
Provide direct supervision and support to Curriculum and Instruction Support staff as they work to support buildings
Provide reports and other data to Superintendent and/or Board of Education as appropriate
Qualification
Required
Minimum of a master's degree with endorsement in educational administration
Minimum of five years of successful elementary education, administrative/supervisory, and teaching experience in public schools is required
Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate
Extensive knowledge of the Science of Reading and experience leading and supporting staff in teaching students to read
Possess knowledge of curriculum and educational trends for students from birth through sixth grade, with a vision for the highest educational standards
Ability to meet frequent and changing deadlines with a high attention to detail with the ability to multi-task
Ability to work independently, with minimum supervisory direction and to establish work priorities and follow-up actions required to meet strict deadlines and other requirements accurately and completely
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing
Strong leadership skills and thorough knowledge of the school improvement process
Experience in facilitating large and small group processes
Ability to create and support a cohesive team of leaders
Preferred
Experience in an urban school district preferred
Prior experience in an urban school district with a large racially and economically diverse population, preferred
