Engineering Member - Blue Ridge Parkway - Build Up Technical Internship Program

American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking one member to contribute to engineering projects alongside NPS Staff. The Engineering Intern will perform technical work related to engineering, assisting project teams and gaining valuable experience in the field.

Responsibilities

Perform work and gain experience performing technical work related to Engineering
Provides assistance to project teams for architectural and engineering task orders; duties may include collection of government provided data and materials for task orders, researching files, correspondence, previous studies, topographic surveys, etc
Researches technical reports or other documents to obtain information for higher graded technicians or professionals
Assists in the preparation of graphs, charts or tables for use by others
Applies basic formulas to routine calculations
May be required to draft text for inclusion in documents
Accompanies and observes higher-graded employees and/or the supervisor in their presentation of briefings, lectures, multi-media shows, etc
Assists in complex presentations and may be required to conduct simple presentations
Travels to park sites to collect data and samples, take measurements and photographs, conduct surveys, attend meetings, inspect facilities and/or construction activities
Inputs compiled data into Facility Management Software System (FMSS) as applicable
Performs cost estimates using Cost Estimate Software System (CESS)
Project work for the National Park Service considers financial, operational, and environmental sustainability, climate resiliency, and equity when considering projects for facility investment

Required

Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts
Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request)
Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation
Member may not participate in any prohibited activities as listed in the Member Service Agreement

Preferred

Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as engineering and project management
Knowledge of design, construction, and project management
Ability and willingness to work as part of a team, and be independently motivated
Deep interest in the National Park Service, the built environment, and engineering
