Materials and Processes (M&P) Sr Engineer – Lunar Permanence
Blue Origin is focused on developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems. The Materials and Processes Sr Engineer will lead oxygen compatibility assessments and collaborate with multi-functional teams to ensure the safety and quality of materials used in human-rated spacecraft.

Responsibilities
Serve as the subject matter expert by leading oxygen compatibility assessments (OCA) for liquid oxygen lines, and flammability testing for metallic and non-metallic materials, components, and systems used in pressurized, human-rated spacecraft
Previous experience and direct involvement with NASA OCA processes with WSTF. OCA training with WSTF or WHA is preferred
Perform assessments of component ignition risk, heat of combustion, flame propagation, and reaction in oxygen-enriched environments to support NASA MUA processes
Apply and interpret standards ASTM MNL36, NASA-STD-6001B, NASA-STD-6016 review and approve materials for use in or near oxygen systems (e.g., ECLS, valves, seals, fittings). Develop and execute test plans for oxygen compatibility, including ignition testing, heat of combustion, and promoted ignition
Work with multi-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce a human-rated space capsule
Review and approve drawings for conformance to the Lunar Crew Lander Parts, Materials, and Process Plan
Assist in addressing and dispositioning nonconformances and implementing corrective actions
Find opportunities for improvements to quality, cost, and schedule
Coach, mentor, and technically assist other engineers
Qualification
Required
Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical or related field
10+ Years of demonstrated M&P or Engineering experience on a production flight or space program
Direct signatory experience for OCAs and associated NASA training and certifications
In-depth knowledge of aerospace-grade materials characterization and NDI techniques
Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis
Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company accessible database
Ability to travel to support development and testing opportunities at other Blue Origin and vendor sites
Preferred
15+ years of experience in Oxygen environments for space
MS/Ph.D. Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical or related field
