SUPERVISORY NAVAL ARCHITECT
NAVWAR is seeking a Supervisory Naval Architect to join their Engineering Department at the Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton. The role involves administering contracts for the design and construction of nuclear submarines, acting as a technical expert in submarine structural design, and resolving construction or repair issues.

You will administer contracts for the design, construction, conversion and repair of nuclear submarines
You will work closely with the Chief Engineer, other Engineering managers and program Office manages to assure consistency and continuity in submarine design and supporting requirements
You will act as the technical expert relating to submarine structural design
You will resolve submarine construction or repair problems

This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level/pay band NH-02 (GS-11) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer working with construction and repair of submarines sufficient to advise on structural design methods; make final decisions to resolve work problems; identify and address both technical and administrative impacts regarding structural engineering and design programs; and implement continuous process improvement initiatives and mitigate technical risk ensuring milestones are met and stakeholders are engaged
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree
Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico
Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board
Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements
Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance
