Responsibilities

Own the architecture and evolution of the data platform (Microsoft Fabric, PySpark, Delta Lake, medallion architecture)
Review and approve data engineering work — pull requests, pipeline designs, dimensional models
Establish and enforce engineering standards: code quality, testing, documentation, CI/CD practices
Make build-vs-buy decisions for tooling, orchestration, and data quality frameworks
Debug production issues alongside your team when complexity requires senior involvement
Oversee ETL pipelines following medallion architecture patterns (Bronze → Silver → Gold)
Ensure dimensional models (Kimball-style star schemas) are correctly designed, performant, and maintainable
Drive data quality through automated validation, monitoring, and observability tooling
Own third-party data integration: geocoding (Azure Maps), property data (ATTOM), industry classification (NAICS)
Ensure client-facing analytics products are accurate, timely, and actionable
Partner with report developers on Power BI semantic models, DAX optimization, and visualization best practices
Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications for engineering execution
Prioritize analytics work against business objectives and client commitments
Hire, mentor, and grow data engineers, report developers, and business analysts
Conduct technical interviews and assess engineering talent with rigor
Run architecture reviews, code walkthroughs, and knowledge-sharing sessions
Create career paths that develop both technical depth and leadership capability

Required

5+ years hands-on experience with Spark/PySpark in production data environments
Deep expertise in SQL and dimensional modeling (star schemas, snowflake schemas, slowly changing dimensions)
Production experience with Delta Lake or equivalent lakehouse formats (Iceberg, Hudi)
Strong Python proficiency — you can read, review, and write data engineering code fluently
Experience with cloud data platforms: Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Synapse, or similar
Solid understanding of ETL patterns, data quality frameworks, and pipeline orchestration
3+ years leading data engineering or analytics teams (5-15 people)
Track record of improving engineering practices: testing coverage, CI/CD adoption, code review culture
Experience hiring and developing technical talent — not just managing headcount
Ability to communicate technical concepts to business stakeholders clearly without oversimplifying
Comfort operating in ambiguity while driving toward clarity and execution
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Administration, or a related field
5+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related domain, with at least 5 years in leadership roles
Proven track record of managing data initiatives in mid-to-large-scale organizations

Preferred

Master's degree
Familiarity with Azure services (Key Vault, Data Factory, OneLake, Azure Maps) and experience with geocoding, GIS, or spatial analytics
Proficiency with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) including semantic layer and DAX/measure design, plus exposure to ML pipelines, feature engineering, or predictive modeling
