Fairfax County Government is seeking an Outreach Coordinator to lead community outreach and engagement initiatives for the Department of Public Safety Communications. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, create and maintain social media platforms, and engage with the community to educate them about public safety services.

Required

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area
Driver's License (Required)
Basic knowledge of mission, goals and objectives of the organizational unit, program, or activities to which incumbent is assigned
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques governing management, organization, operations and programmatic services
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques relating to the functional area of business operation (e.g., personnel, budgeting and financial management, contract administration, and management)
Ability to identify possible solutions for solving business problems
Ability to perform a variety of fact-finding techniques (e.g., interview, case analysis, observation, research, benchmarking) to gather information in support of programs, projects, studies, assessments and evaluations
Ability to aggregate and assimilate data to identify major patterns, trends, and themes regarding organizational and program effectiveness and efficiency
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to use word processing and presentation software to prepare documents, and to use spreadsheet and statistical analysis software packages to store, manipulate, analyze, and present data
Ability to train, lead, and/or supervise paraprofessional staff
The ability to work a flexible schedule for agency needs including evenings and weekends, and to be available on occasional holidays

Preferred

Knowledge of Public Safety to include Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)/Public Safety Telecommunications operations
Two or more years of experience creating content material in print, online, and social media; proofreading and editing materials; planning and conducting special events; developing and preparing reports; making public presentations; and acting as media contact
Two or more years' experience in engaging in outreach activities such as community meetings, informational sessions, and public safety campaigns
Demonstrated record of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and partnership development with public safety partners
Two or more years' experience effectively communicating and presenting information to diverse audiences, including large and small groups, adult learners, and children
