Ohio BWC is a state agency dedicated to promoting workplace safety and providing quality care for injured workers. The BWC Attorney 1 will address bankruptcy issues, provide legal advice, and assist in the resolution of legal claims related to Workers' Compensation laws and BWC policies.

Responsibilities
Primary duties relating to addressing bankruptcy issues and working with the BWC bankruptcy unit
Working with BWC Medicare coordinator and unit director with respect to the Medicare Secondary Payer Ace, with SCHIP Extension Act, and the WCMSA
Providing legal advice and consultation in response to inquiries from: the BWC Administrator, regional customer service offices, central office, insurance companies, injured workers and employers pertaining to bankruptcy, self-insurance, legislative changes, settlements, safety violations, handicap reimbursements, Workers' Compensation laws and BWC policies and procedures
Assisting the BWC legal department, State of Ohio Attorney General's office, County prosecutor's and/or special counsel in resolution, negotiation, settlement, and/or litigation of bankruptcy, self-insurance, handicap reimbursements, safety violations, legislative changes or BWC policies and procedures
Responds to subject matter related legal claims and matters
Working with State of Ohio Attorney General's office and fraud investigators investigating alleged fraud complaints
Working with BWC business units in reviewing policies, rules, and statutes
Qualification
Required
Admission to Ohio Bar per Section 4705.01 of Revised Code
Must be able to provide own transportation
Knowledge of law
Knowledge of public relations
Knowledge of human relations
Knowledge of BWC policies & procedures
Knowledge of Workers' Compensation & Industrial Commission law
Knowledge of claims management
Knowledge of state insurance fund
Skill in use of personal computer
Ability to define problems
Ability to conduct legal research
Ability to collect data & evidence
Ability to establish facts & recommend appropriate legal recourse
Ability to review, edit & draft appeals & motions
Ability to prepare legal reports, memorandums & hearing summary sheets
Ability to handle difficult interactions with injured workers, employers & their representatives
Completion of continuing legal education for attorneys per Rule X of Ohio Supreme Court
Compliance with registration for attorneys per Rule VI of the Ohio Supreme Court
