The Calhoun School is seeking a Director of Human Resources to work under the direction of the CFO. The main purpose of this role is to manage payroll, employee benefits, and compliance with employment laws while leading HR policy and employee relations initiatives.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and monitor the entire payroll system of the organizations on a daily basis and ensure that all payroll information is accurate and updated at all points in time
Be the custodian of the payroll system and all employee records
Ensure all payroll deductions are complete and accurate
Meet with employees as needed to answer payroll questions
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and reporting requirements, including W-2, W-3, and other related filings
Prepare payroll or HR related reports as needed and support with HR/Payroll-related grants or reports as needed
Manage the benefit renewal process and interface with brokers and various benefit providers
Coordinate annual open enrollment for benefits, communicate updates to employees, and ensure accurate enrollment in benefits programs
Assist with the preparation and maintain documents that detail our benefits package and provide these to staff
Process various life events (maternity leave, STD, LTD, life insurance, COBRA, workman’s comp, etc.)
Ensure compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements, including accurate tracking and reporting of employee hours, eligibility, and timely submission of forms 1094-C and 1095-C to the IRS
Lead HR policy review, creation, and implementation. Support the strategic planning of the school through the lens of HR
Lead employee relations matters, including conducting and overseeing investigations related to misconduct, harassment, discrimination, and policy violations in compliance with federal, state, and local law
Advise senior admin on managing complex human resource issues
Onboard new employees, including processing background checks, adding them to our payroll system, and other required pre-work compliance requirements
Offboard departing employees, including terminating them in our payroll system, ensuring they return any school property, and sharing relevant departure information with them
Post jobs on relevant job boards and help ensure hiring managers have access to applications
Review and update the staff handbook annually
Manage the reappointment process, including sending reappointment letters to staff, tracking who has/has not returned letters, following up with individual staff and supervisors
Provide HR guidance to supervisors as needed and meet with employees to field HR concerns or questions
Ensure school-wide compliance with federal, New York State, and New York City employment laws, including FMLA, NY Paid Family Leave, ADA accommodations, wage and hour regulations, and mandatory training requirements
Oversee I-9 compliance, audits, and employment eligibility verification processes
Other responsibilities as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree and CP-SHRM required
Minimum of 8 years relevant experience
Computer literacy, experience with google suite and microsoft suite
Experience working with HR and payroll systems, Paycom experience preferred
