Data Protection Counsel

Crossing Hurdles is seeking a Data Privacy & GDPR Counsel to provide expert guidance on global privacy and data protection regulations. The role involves conducting privacy risk assessments, drafting policies, and ensuring compliance with data transfer requirements, particularly in AI-driven operations.

Responsibilities

Advise on and interpret global privacy and data protection regulations, including GDPR, ePrivacy, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, and related frameworks
Conduct privacy risk assessments, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), and establish governance frameworks for AI-driven operations
Draft, review, and update privacy policies, data processing agreements (DPAs), standard contractual clauses (SCCs), and related contractual language
Ensure compliance with cross-border data transfer requirements and maintain records of processing activities (RoPAs) and compliance controls
Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for business, technology, and security teams
Design and contribute training content to upskill stakeholders on privacy obligations and best practices in AI contexts
Support privacy-by-design initiatives through effective written and verbal communication with cross-functional stakeholders

Required

Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a Data Privacy & GDPR Counsel or in a comparable legal privacy role
Deep expertise in GDPR, ePrivacy, cross-border data transfers, DPIAs, DPO obligations, and global privacy laws such as CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, and PIPEDA
Proven experience conducting privacy risk assessments, building governance frameworks, and maintaining compliance documentation
Strong policy drafting skills, including experience with DPAs, SCCs, consent mechanisms, and privacy clauses in commercial contracts
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for diverse audiences
Demonstrated ability to advise cross-functional teams, deliver privacy training, and collaborate with IT and security stakeholders
Self-driven and adaptable professional comfortable working in a fully remote environment
