Director of Continued Airworthiness Operations

AvioDesign provides engineering and certification support for aircraft modification and continued airworthiness programs. The Director of Continued Airworthiness Operations will provide executive leadership within the post-certification support function, managing operational issues and ensuring timely resolutions to maintain aircraft availability.

Responsibilities

Assess incoming technical questions, field issues, or installation discrepancies to determine operational impact, urgency, and appropriate handling
Interpret reported conditions using first-hand aircraft maintenance and modification experience
Define how issues are framed, documented, and prioritized prior to leadership or program-level involvement
Prepare structured, decision-ready summaries that preserve operational reality and aircraft configuration context
Maintain authoritative visibility over active support items and outcomes
Ensure disciplined handling of continued airworthiness issues to support timely resolution and minimize aircraft downtime
Provide functional leadership over internal contributors supporting continued airworthiness activities
Set priorities and workload direction to maintain continuity, responsiveness, and quality
Step into hands-on execution when needed to support continuity, ramp-up periods, or internal training
Serve as the internal authority on continued airworthiness operations and post-certification issue interpretation
Own execution standards, workflows, and operational discipline for the continued airworthiness function
Maintain executive-level visibility into operational trends, risks, and recurring issues
Provide leadership with the operational insight and context necessary for informed, timely program decisions
Shape the evolution of established continued airworthiness capabilities as program volume increases
Ensure oversight is informed by direct aircraft modification and maintenance experience rather than second-hand reporting

Required

7+ years of experience working within MRO and/or OEM environments supporting in-service aircraft
Direct hands-on experience earlier in their career performing aircraft maintenance or modification work, including avionics, sheet metal, or systems installations
Experience supporting or assisting with STC or other approved modification installations
Demonstrated progression from hands-on aircraft work into operational leadership, technical support, or program-level roles
Strong understanding of how aircraft modification and maintenance activities execute on the floor, not just how they are planned
Ability to quickly diagnose reported issues, ask technically relevant follow-up questions, and preserve real-world conditions in documentation
Experience exercising judgment in environments where operational decisions affect aircraft availability, schedule, and risk
Experience overseeing or mentoring technical or operational contributors

Preferred

Background supporting aircraft modification programs within OEM or MRO environments
Experience with avionics upgrades, interior or exterior modifications, or systems installations
Comfort operating in time-sensitive environments where minimizing aircraft downtime is critical
Experience working across multiple aircraft types or modification programs concurrently
