Laboratory Surveyor (Laboratory Quality Specialist 2)
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Laboratory Surveyor in the Health Care Facilities and Programs Division. This role involves conducting on-site surveys of clinical labs to ensure compliance with Illinois and federal regulations, reviewing licensure applications, and providing technical information to various stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Under general supervision, drives and travels to conduct on-site surveys of independent clinical labs, hospital labs and blood banks to ensure compliance with Illinois and federal rules and regulations and to recommend certification and/or licensure
Reviews and evaluates licensure applications from clinical laboratories, physician office laboratories, blood banks, and other facilities regulated by the Laboratory Regulations Unit
Confers and consults with laboratory personnel and other interested persons concerning the clinical laboratory requirements and requirements related to the certification and operation of facilities regulated by the Laboratory Regulation Unit
Collaborates in the development of master schedule for surveys of clinical laboratories, blood banks and other facilities
Prepares survey materials for computer input and for transmission to the responsible individuals and units for processing
Serves as an expert witness in prosecutions and in the defense of the Clinical Laboratory Regulations
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Qualification
Required
Requires a bachelor's degree in microbiology, chemistry, medical technology or a related field from a recognized college or university, supplemented by four (4) years' professional laboratory or other related experience
Requires physical, visual, and auditory ability to carry out assigned duties
Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties
Requires appropriate, valid driver's license
Preferred
Two (2) years' experience conducting on-site surveys, or directly involved during the survey process as a provider of clinical labs, hospital labs or blood banks to ensure compliance with Illinois and federal rules and regulations
One (1) year experience preparing comprehensive laboratory inspection reports
Two (2) years' experience of laboratory methods and procedures and the types of laboratory equipment essential to the operation of clinical laboratories, blood banks or environmental laboratories
Two (2) years' experience of methods used to inspect and evaluate the operations, personnel and procedures of laboratories or blood banks
One (1) year experience assisting with scheduling for surveys of clinical laboratories, blood banks or other facilities
One (1) year experience serving as an expert witness in prosecutions and in the defense of the Clinical Laboratory Regulations
One (1) year experience maintaining effective working relationships with laboratory or blood bank directors, to obtain compliance with applicable laws
One (1) year experience exercising independent judgment in recommending action on license applications
One (1) year experience planning and participating in training workshops and seminars
One (1) year work experience in Microsoft Word, processing, and spreadsheet applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel PowerPoint, Smartsheet)
