Project Engineer
Crescent Solutions is seeking a Senior/Principal Project Engineer with expertise in substation and switchyard projects. The role involves leading projects from conceptual development through construction and commissioning, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and effective communication with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Lead all assigned substation and switchyard projects from early-stage conceptual development through construction and commissioning
During the conceptual phase, collaborate with the Early-Stage Project Manager and Development Group to define engineering scope and requirements
Provide training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external Engineers of Record (EORs) to ensure compliance with generation interconnection agreements, transfer agreements, scope documents, project specifications, site-specific requirements, and applicable standards including IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and other industry codes
Secure engineering consulting resources from approved suppliers by developing scopes of work, soliciting and evaluating bids, and awarding work through the company’s Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group
Coordinate with project stakeholders and transmission owners to identify and secure switchyard sites, and to support engineering updates, data requests, and permitting required for design and construction
Competitively source, select, and contract geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services, while supporting the E&C Cost Estimating Team with scope assumptions
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the successful delivery of assigned E&C switchyard projects, representing E&C’s internal and external interests as needed
Present project status, risks, issues, and mitigation strategies to various levels of management through briefings and presentations
Support Transmission Services during the review of interconnection documentation, including system impact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies, and interconnection agreements
Ensure transmission owner requirements and E&C engineering designs align with ISO requirements and are fully incorporated into project designs
Maintain frequent communication with transmission owners, operators, and ISOs to ensure project deliverables meet off-taker requirements and are accurate and timely
Manage all long-lead major material orders to reduce schedule risk and prevent budget overruns
Assist ISC with the creation, review, and approval of switchyard project scopes of work, as well as preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials
Support E&C Estimating by providing project feedback, technical input, scope modifications, and template updates
Work collaboratively with project engineering teams across disciplines to establish priorities, work plans, and clear lines of responsibility
Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively in accordance with departmental procedures, industry standards, and company policies
Support project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives
Provide technical support to Legal for regulatory filings, depositions, and hearings as required
Collaborate with OEMs to enhance or adapt component designs to better align with the company’s engineering philosophies
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in – Required
7+ years of experience in high-voltage substation and switchyard design and engineering strongly preferred
Experience in Project Engineering and/or Project Management, with a demonstrated bias for action
Preferred
Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering preferred
