Project Manager-Space Management

The County of San Diego is seeking a Project Manager (Space Management) for the Facilities Operations Division, which is responsible for maintaining a portfolio of County-owned buildings. The role involves managing space planning, overseeing projects, and ensuring compliance with safety standards while engaging with stakeholders and optimizing facility usage.

Responsibilities

Analyze space usage, develop strategic layouts, forecast future needs, and maintain detailed records
Deliver space-related projects, safely, timely, within scope and on budget; manage all project phases using standard processes, tools, and templates; communicate thoroughly with stakeholders and act as trusted advisor providing cost-effective, value-added service; and ensure contract compliance for consultants and contractors
Track utilization metrics, generate reports, and maintain accurate documentation using space management tools
Serve as the primary contact for space initiatives, facilitate meetings, gather feedback, and promote best practices in workplace design
Ensure all space activities meet regulatory standards and safety protocols

Required

A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in city/regional planning, architecture, engineering, construction management or a closely related field; AND two (2) years of professional-level project management experience performing development planning, research, data analysis, computations, project coordination/ management, grants management, or management support activities in architecture/construction, OR
Six (6) years of professional-level experience in the construction industry as a superintendent or manager of multi-trade construction projects in the performance of general construction and or specialized construction with projects valued at more than $1,000.000
Experience assessing client needs and prioritizing solutions; developing actionable recommendations and materials for decision-makers; collaborating across functional disciplines and responding quickly to emerging County programs or requests; and preparing analyses, conceptual plans, and cost estimates to deliver results
Strong oral and written communication skills
Well-developed soft skills, including political acumen and consensus building
Ability to lead in both small and large team environments and work independently
A proactive approach to process improvement and a commitment to enhancing performance and client services
