Engineering Intern - Platform Observability
Awetomaton is a Dayton-based defense startup specializing in satellite collection, seeking exceptional students for their Summer 2026 Internship. As an Engineering Intern, you will develop solutions for national security needs while being mentored by senior engineering talent.

Responsibilities
Assist in developing and maintaining internal platform tools and services, especially those related to increasing insight into how the platform is functioning day-to-day and minute-to-minute
Fuse together multiple platform-standard data sources (Prometheus, AWS) via user-friendly Grafana dashboards
Evolve simple dashboards into engines for forecasting and recommendations through automated trend analyses
Support automation efforts for CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure provisioning
Document processes, tools, and best practices for internal teams
Collaborate with multiple internal platform/DevOps teams to guide product (dashboard) development for maximum value and utility
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with Junior year completed by Summer 2026
US Citizen
Proficiency with at least one scripting language (Python, Bash / Ash / Zsh, etc.)
Experienced with Linux systems and terminal usage
Interest in DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, and automation tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.)
Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn
Preferred
Experience working with any Kubernetes distribution (OpenShift, Rancher, K3s, AWS EKS, etc.)
Familiarity with container services (e.g. Docker) and CI/CD (e.g. GitLab)
Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Exposure to monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, etc.)
Knowledge of networking fundamentals
