Grant Accountant/Manager Level I

Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) is a non-profit electric utility serving rural Alaska. The Grant Accountant/Manager is responsible for managing financial aspects of grants, ensuring compliance, and providing accurate financial reporting, while overseeing grant-funded projects and maintaining relationships with grant agencies.

Responsibilities

Manage grant funding from Federal, State, and private grantors, including tracking financial status and drawing funds as needed
Maintain accurate accounting cost controls for all grant-funded projects and process incoming invoices
Prepare and submit monthly financial reports on grants to funding agencies and internal departments
Draw grant funds from funding agencies, monthly or as deemed necessary to meet the Cooperative's cash flow requirement
Review and implement grant budgets in accordance with reporting requirements
Perform closeout reporting for all grants as required by individual grant agencies, including final cost reports and/or closeout summary
Ensure compliance with 2 CFR 200 and assist with annual audit
Provide Grants receivable schedule and grant reimbursement reports for the annual audit
Obtain and maintain Public Notary
Assist with funding applications for grants, loans, and bonds as needed
Prepare materials for internal and external meetings and maintain working relationships with other departments
Occasionally travel to communities and present on grant-related topics

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar field. Education requirement can be met with experience
Specialized knowledge at a professional level in accounting and finance is required
Strong background with fully integrated computerized accounting systems preferred
Familiarity with federal grant reporting is preferred
Previous work experience in a cooperative or electric utility is preferred, but multiple factors will be taken into consideration
Reliable, punctual, and productive
Positive attitude toward people and business
Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and accurately orally and in writing
Proficient in use of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite
High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Math skills commensurate with and supportive of the other requirements of the position
Ten key by touch
Demonstrated skills in research, analysis and problem-solving
Demonstrated planning, organizing, and prioritizing skills
High degree of flexibility to meet multiple and changing priorities
Ability to adapt to change and work efficiently under pressure
Regularly required to sit, see, talk, and hear
Repetitive motions with hands and fingers such as dialing and keyboarding
Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Able to lift and/or move up to 25lbs

Preferred

Strong background with fully integrated computerized accounting systems
Familiarity with federal grant reporting
Previous work experience in a cooperative or electric utility
