Indirect Tax Associate

The Greenbrier Companies is a leading designer, manufacturer, and supplier of freight rail transportation equipment and services. The Indirect Tax Associate supports the Company’s tax compliance and reporting functions, focusing on property tax and sales/use tax return preparation while assisting with process improvements and research.

Responsibilities

Prepare and file sales/use tax returns and ensure timely and accurate tax payments across multiple jurisdictions
Prepare personal property tax returns, review valuation notices, and process property tax payments
Assist with railcar personal property tax compliance, including return preparation, notice review, and bill processing
Conduct research on property tax and sales/use tax issues, interpreting regulations and providing recommendations
Maintain and update sales/use tax exemption certificates, ensuring compliance and proper documentation
Support operations and accounting teams by providing tax guidance and resolving inquiries
Assist in improving tax processes and controls, identifying opportunities for efficiency and automation
Prepare and enter general ledger journal entries related to tax accruals and payments
Participate in special projects, including audits, system enhancements, and process documentation
Collaborate with external consultants and taxing authorities as needed to resolve issues and ensure compliance
Perform other tasks as required to support the Company’s overall tax function

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to interact effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

Prior internship or exposure to tax or accounting functions is a plus but not required
