Director, Work Force and Talent Strategy
Birmingham Business Alliance is seeking a strategic leader for employer-driven workforce development and talent attraction across Greater Birmingham's seven-county region. The role involves engaging with industry leaders to address workforce challenges, building coalitions, and executing talent attraction strategies targeting young professionals.
Responsibilities
Serve as primary listener and strategic partner to industry leaders and HR executives across target sectors (Life Sciences, Mobility/EV, Technology, Metals/Advanced Materials, Healthcare, Construction, Headquarters Operations); lead relaunch and management of industry-specific workforce roundtables; translate employer needs into actionable workforce solutions and training programs
Establish and champion employer-driven workforce development vision across seven-county region; convene workforce boards, education institutions, training providers, and community partners; build coalitions to solve complex challenges; align resources around employer priorities and eliminate duplication
Execute comprehensive talent attraction and retention strategy targeting young professionals (ages 22-35) and "boomerang" talent; develop and implement targeted marketing campaigns, events, and programs showcasing Greater Birmingham's quality of life, career opportunities, and cost advantages; design talent attraction initiatives including site visit programs, networking events, mentorship programs, and young professional engagement activities
Partner with BBA's marketing team and Convention & Visitors Bureau to create integrated messaging positioning Greater Birmingham as destination for business and talent; build relationships with universities, alumni associations, and professional organizations to create recruiting pipelines; collaborate directly with employers to address their specific talent recruitment challenges
Develop and maintain relationships with training providers to maximize employment opportunities and meet industry needs; assist employers in creating work-based learning programs including apprenticeships, internships, and on-the-job training; partner with K-12 and higher education to support career pathways connecting to real employer demand
Gather sectoral market information, talent demand, and skills requirements from employers; translate data into strategic insights that drive workforce and talent strategies; track and report metrics to demonstrate impact and ensure accountability to employer partners; coordinate with BBA's business attraction team to support recruitment and expansion
