Responsibilities
Plan, organize and implement a comprehensive year-round recreation program in one or more functional recreation areas for citizens of all ages in the City of Hampton
Manage community recreation facilities or develop and coordinate special seasonal projects
Assist the Program Coordinator or Manager in leading a team of professional, clerical and volunteer employees
Supervise full-time, part-time and volunteer staff
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation or a related field
Requires three (3) years of professional experience in one or more of the primary recreational areas to include adult and youth services, athletics, therapeutics, aquatics, facilities management and/or senior citizen programs
Must possess Basic First Aid and CPR certifications within 90 days of employment
Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy
Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion
Requires effective communication with internal and external customers
May require working beyond a standard 40 hour work week to include nights and weekends
May require some local travel
The incumbent may be considered 'essential personnel' during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules
Preferred
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification is preferred within 6 months of employment
