Structural Fitter

Southwest Shipyard, LP provides various services to the marine industry and is seeking a Structural Fitter. This position is primarily responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing metal structures and components in accordance with blueprints and specifications.

Responsibilities

Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned
Work safe and maintain a safe working environment
Notify foreman or supervisor of any safety and/or structural issues as warranted
Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated structural steel plate according to customer specifications and direction from Foreman/Supervisor
Required to move parts into position, manually, by hoist or crane, and align parts, using jacks, etc
May be required to remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and/or cutting torch, as well as give directions to the welder to build up low spots or short pieces
May, at times, be required to tack weld, as necessary
Consults with foreman or supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair and/or installation
Attend safety meetings as required
Maintain a safe working environment

Required

Must have or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card
Minimum one year experience as a structural fitter (shipyard experience preferred, but not required)
Be able to perform simple paper work as required for filling out forms and logs
Must have good judgment skills and work initiative, taking good directions from Supervisor/Manager
Understanding of company Quality, Environmental & Safety manual and procedures described therein
High school graduate or equivalent
Must have good communication skills and leadership ability, English & Spanish (Bi-lingual required)

Preferred

Shipyard experience preferred, but not required
