Accounting Technician III

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is one of the largest agencies in the state, responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of all North Carolinians. The Accounting Technician III will perform accounting steps on desk audit programs for Medicaid cost reports, ensuring compliance with regulations and preparing findings for further review.

Responsibilities

Perform accounting steps on desk audit programs for approximately 700 annually filed Medicaid cost reports of long-term care providers
Verification of provider name & address, historical provider number, NPI, any changes of ownership, verification of supporting documentation
Reconciliation of cost report expenses to the provider’s working trial balance
Reconciliation of patient days
Review of capital data survey and reconciliation of provider tax
Prepare a list of findings and exceptions for further review by Auditor and/or field audit staff
Draft preliminary adjustments regarding patient days and provider tax for the Auditor review
Ensure compliance with CMS regulations, state Medicaid policies, and approved payment methodologies
Review providers cost reports to prepare provider cost settlements and prepare workbooks and metrics

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive or analytical accounting/financial statements and reports
Bachelor's degree in business administration or other field from an appropriately accredited institution with twelve (12) semester hours in accounting and two (2) years of experience as specified above
Associate's degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of experience as specified above
equivalent combination or education and experience
