Narrative Game Designer

Move Interactive USA is the U.S.-based studio of Move Interactive, focused on building original digital experiences and expanding iconic IP into games. The Narrative Game Designer is responsible for designing and implementing narrative systems and comprehensive worldbuilding within gameplay, ensuring that story mechanics and player experience are cohesive and immersive.

Responsibilities

Design narrative-driven gameplay structures such as:
Questlines and quest chains
Character appearances and progression logic
Faction or institutional systems
Narrative gating and unlock conditions
Define •when• and •why• narrative moments occur based on player actions and game state
Ensure narrative elements are repeatable, scalable, and compatible with live-service development
Translate themes, characters, and story ideas into gameplay mechanics and progression systems
Collaborate with designers and engineers to scope narrative ideas realistically
Adjust narrative designs based on technical constraints without losing creative intent
Write and structure gameplay-facing narrative content, including:
Quest dialogue
NPC interactions
System-facing narrative text
Ensure dialogue supports gameplay pacing and player clarity rather than exposition overload
Communicate directly with engineers and developers using clear logic, diagrams, and written specs
Collaborate with art and concept teams to align visuals with narrative intent
Participate in creative discussions and help structure outcomes into actionable plans
Maintain narrative documentation (lore, systems, decisions, logic)
Track narrative consistency and flag contradictions or drift early
Support long-term narrative coherence as features and content scale

Required

Strong understanding of game design fundamentals and player experience
Ability to think in systems, states, and progression rather than just linear storytelling
Competence in collaborating directly with engineers and developers
Ability to translate Creative Director's abstract creative ideas into structured, implementable designs
Clear written/verbal communication and documentation skills
Excellent organizational habits and attention to detail

Preferred

Experience in narrative design, quest design, or systems design for games
Familiarity with RPGs, MMOs, or live-service games
Experience writing and structuring gameplay-facing dialogue
Background in interactive storytelling or game development (AA, indie, or mobile included)
Experience working with global or cross-cultural teams
Interest in art, fashion, or culture-driven IP
Korean language proficiency (highly preferred)
