Responsibilities
Lead a bold, diversified fundraising strategy - expanding beyond events into major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, and institutional funding
Cultivate and steward high-value donor relationships, including families, foundations, and scientific partners, ensuring a strong and growing base of philanthropic support
Strengthen donor systems, tracking, and reporting to create clear visibility into revenue progress, pipelines, and performance
Professionalize the organization by implementing modern systems and best practices within software platforms, processes, and tools across finance, operations, HR, and communications
Lead a cohesive remote team of four - clarifying roles, setting expectations, managing performance, and fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration
Oversee financial management in partnership with the founder and external partners, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and responsible budgeting as the organization grows
Activate and engage the Board as strategic partners and ambassadors - providing clarity, structure, and support to improve effectiveness
Recruit new Board members who bring networks, expertise, and national reach to advance fundraising and mission visibility
Establish strong governance practices and rhythms, including strategic planning, committee structures, and performance oversight
Serve as a trusted partner to the founder, aligning organizational priorities with the scientific strategy that drives the mission
Represent Oligo Nation with national visibility - serving as a compelling spokesperson to families, researchers, funders, and community partners
Strengthen partnerships with research institutions, industry collaborators, and patient communities to accelerate progress toward new treatments
Qualification
Required
Proven experience in fundraising and revenue generation, with a strong track record of success in diverse channels
Experience in organizational leadership and management, including staff management and financial oversight
Ability to engage and activate a Board of Directors effectively
Strong communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization to various stakeholders including families, researchers, and funders
Experience in building partnerships with research institutions, industry collaborators, and patient communities
Demonstrated strategic thinking and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment
Ability to implement modern systems and best practices across finance, operations, HR, and communications
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate relationships with donors and community partners
A deep motivation for Oligo Nation's mission and a commitment to advancing research for rare diseases
Preferred
Experience in the nonprofit sector, particularly in health or medical research organizations
Familiarity with the complexities of rare diseases and the scientific research landscape
Experience in strategic planning and governance practices
