Caltrans District 3 is seeking a Chief Engineer I to lead a team of engineers and maintenance personnel at the California School for the Deaf, Riverside. The role involves overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Lead a crew of Stationary Engineers, Maintenance Mechanics, and Electricians in the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems
Adhere to Department policies, rules and procedures, and submit administrative requests in a timely manner
Ensure health and safety requirements are prioritized for job completion
Provide input and perform duties related to campus projects, construction, and repair work
Assist the Building Trades Supervisor and Chief of Plant Operations in acquiring quotes and submitting requisitions for materials and supplies
Keep tools and equipment in good condition, maintain records, and prepare reports
Perform tasks related to facilities HVAC maintenance

Qualification

Preferred

Possession of EPA 608 certification
Strong engineering aptitude and an understanding of maintenance, operations, refrigeration, and HVAC maintenance and repair in a school campus, or facility setting
Experience with purchasing, contracts, invoice approval, and record keeping. Working knowledge of FI$Cal and Microsoft Office preferred
Be a team player with the ability to make sound decisions in identifying problems and finding resolutions
Ability to exercise initiative, independence, and lead engineering, mechanical, and electrical staff
Experience working in a school facility or campus setting
Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn

Benefits

Plus a monthly Recruitment and Retention differential of 10% of the base salary.
