SCADA/Relay Settings Engineer III

Responsibilities
Lead development and approval of protective relay settings using SEL relays for transmission, distribution, and generation facilities
Configure complex SELogic equations and automation logic using SEL AcSELerator QuickSet
Integrate Orion I/O and automation devices for control, monitoring, and substation automation
Perform short-circuit, protection coordination, and arc-flash studies to support protection philosophies and system reliability
Engineer SCADA point mapping and communications for SEL relays, Orion devices, RTACs, and gateways
Design and support SEL RTAC-based automation, data concentration, and protocol conversion
Configure DNP3, IEC 61850 (GOOSE/MMS), Modbus, and Ethernet/serial communications
Coordinate SCADA database development and point-to-point testing with control centers
Develop HMI screens for local substation control, alarms, and monitoring
Serve as a primary technical point of contact for clients on protection, SCADA, and automation matters
Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops to define requirements and review deliverables
Communicate technical concepts, risks, and recommendations clearly to client engineering, operations, and IT stakeholders
Support project scoping, schedules, and technical deliverables in coordination with project managers
Address client questions during design, testing, and commissioning phases to ensure expectations are met
Qualification
Required
Strong understanding of a substation project lifecycle at the utility level
Excellent technical communication and detail-oriented work practices
High comfort level with teaching, training, and mentoring team members
Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited university in Electrical Engineering
Engineer in Training (EIT) designation required. EIT designation is required to progress towards Professional Engineering (PE) Licensure, which is needed to progress in your career at Amped I
Minimum of 3 years experience in relay protection and control design of high voltage 12-500 kV substations and/or protective relay and SCADA setting development
Preferred
Working knowledge of substation networking, including Ethernet switches, VLANs, IP addressing, network segmentation, and redundant architectures
Working knowledge of NERC CIP and PRC compliance for protection and BES Cyber Systems
Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for SEL and Orion devices, including role-based access control, authentication, certificate management, secure communications, and configuration backups
