Staff Accountant

Whippany Actuation Systems is a fast-paced and innovative aerospace manufacturer specializing in electromechanical actuators for both commercial and military applications. They are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join their finance team as a Staff Accountant, focusing on supporting accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and routine reconciliations.

Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining the general ledger by ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent postings in accordance with accounting policies and GAAP
Perform month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, prepaid amortization, and weekly/monthly financial reports and metrics
Assist with validating the cost of goods sold (COGS), including labor, scrap, rework, and overhead allocation, and work closely with Operations to investigate variances and manage costs
Partner with Sales, Operations, and Business Unit teams to trend sales, margins, and variances and identify areas for performance improvement
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment runs, vendor inquiries, customer invoicing, credit memos, and resolution of payment discrepancies
Maintain vendor records and assist with annual 1099 reporting
Process and report on weekly and bi-weekly payrolls, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Maintain accurate financial data within the ERP system and support transaction integrity across financial modules
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting and/or finance experience
Knowledge of GAAP and applicable regulations
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis tools)
Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with minimal to no supervision
Authorization to work in the United States

Preferred

Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
Knowledge of standard and actual costing methods
Knowledge of payroll regulations, procedures, and experience processing payroll through ADP Workforce Now or Vantage
Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
